چکیده

Myoglobin and hemoglobin are often present in the urine of hospitalized patients. Differentiating between the two is difficult but important, and textbooks still may contain misconceptions regarding these two proteins. Here we discuss(a)the difficulties of detection, (b) how to differentiate myoglobinuria from hemoglobinuria, (c) the importance of such differentiation, (d) the etiology of acute renal failure in myoglobinuria, (e) the need for further basic research in myoglobinuria and hemoglobinuria, and (/) the newer techniques used to study myoglobin, such as “high-performance” liquid chromatography (HPLC) and isoelectric focusing.

Glutaric Aciduri Type II, with Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Renal Failure Presentation in 10 Years Old Girl

Introduction: Myopathy and rhabdomyolysis are not common in children and, if not detected and do not treated it will be associated with high mortality and morbidity rate. The causes of rhabdomyolysis include hypokalemia, trauma, viral myositis, poisoning, rheumatoid diseases, and metabolic myopathies. Rhabdomyolysis treatment includes rapid supportive care and treatment of the underlying dise...

Severe falciparum malaria with dengue coinfection complicated by rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure: an unusual case with myoglobinemia, myoglobinuria but normal serum creatine kinase

Background: Renal failure is a complication of severe malaria, and rhabdomyolysis with myoglobinuria is an uncommon cause. We report an unusual case of severe falciparum malaria with dengue coinfection complicated by acute renal failure and myoglobinemia, myoglobinuria but a normal creatine kinase (CK).

Acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria associated with Legionnaires' disease.

A case of nonfatal Legionnaires' disease was complicated by rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuria, and acute nonoliguric renal failure. It was not determined whether the rhabdomyolysis was secondary to direct toxic effect of the organism or due to a circulating factor causing muscle necrosis. This case provides additional evidence that rhabdomyolysis with subsequent renal failure may be a serious compl...

Evaluation of Iranian Snake ‘Macrovipera lebetina’ Venom Cytotoxicity in Kidney Cell Line HEK-293

Background:Envenomation by Macrovipera lebetina (M. lebetina) is characterized by prominent local tissue damage, hemorrhage, abnormalities in the blood coagulation system, necrosis, and edema. However, the main cause of death after a bite by M. lebetina has been attributed to acute renal failure (ARF). It is unclear whether the venom components have a direct or indirect action in causing ARF. T...

Varicella zoster infection, massive rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuria, and renal failure.

We have presented a case of rhabdomyolysis and myoglobinuria with resultant acute renal failure in association with varicella zoster infection, an association not previously described. A patient who has a severe varicella infection and volume depletion might be at risk for this life-threatening complication. Early recognition and prevention, together with appropriate support, might prevent this...
